Module 1
TYPES OF ONLINE JOURNALISM BLOGS, PODCAST VLOGS
Online journalism uses digital platforms (websites, social media, apps, etc.) to create and share news and information. The main types include:
1. News Websites:
These are online versions of newspapers or TV news channels.
They publish breaking news, articles, and reports quickly.
Readers can access updates anytime and anywhere.
Examples include BBC News, The Hindu, and NDTV.
They often include pictures, videos, and live updates.
2. Blogs:
Blogs are personal or professional websites where writers share their opinions or stories.
They can cover topics like politics, fashion, travel, or technology.
Bloggers often write in a friendly, informal style.
Readers can comment and share their views.
Many journalists use blogs to express their personal analysis.
Example: A journalist writing about daily political news.
A travel journalist sharing his trip experience and photos.
3. Podcasts:
Podcasts are audio programs available on the internet.
They cover news, interviews, and discussions on different topics.
People can listen to them on mobile phones or computers.
They are popular because they can be heard anytime, even while doing other tasks.
Example: “BBC Global News Podcast” — gives daily world news updates.
A journalist discussing crime stories every week.
4. Vlog:
A vlog (video + blog) is a video-based form of journalism.
Journalists use videos to share news, reports, or interviews.
It can be posted on YouTube, Instagram, or news websites.
Vlogs help viewers see the real situation — like live reporting, event coverage, or visual storytelling.
Example: A YouTuber covering local news events.
A reporter making a vlog about life in rural areas.
5. Social Media Journalism:
Journalists use platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to share news.
It allows fast communication and real-time updates.
Many people get breaking news first on social media.
It helps journalists connect directly with their audience.
However, it also requires checking facts carefully.
6. Video Journalism:
This type uses videos to tell news stories online.
Videos may be posted on YouTube, news sites, or social media.
It makes stories more visual and engaging.
Journalists record interviews, events, and reports.
It helps viewers understand news quickly through visuals.
